Cromer’s past in an enchanting nutshell

Step inside a tiny fisherman's cottage and imagine life in Cromer at the end of the 19th century. Colourful displays chart the town’s history as an early Victorian seaside resort, resplendent with fine hotels and scandalous mixed bathing.

The town is in a geological area of international importance. Find out why in the Geology Gallery with its fine collection of fossils, which include bones from one of the area’s most famous finds, the West Runton elephant - Britain's oldest and most complete elephant fossil.

Norfolk’s Olive Edis was a pioneering female photographer. A new exhibition of her work features beautiful portrait photographs and autochromes of North Norfolk fishermen alongside rare early 20th century colour photographs.

Other good things to do near by
Visit Cromer Church and climb the 171 steps to the top of the tower, which is open during the summer season.

Stroll along the seafront and to the end of pier, where you can enjoy a cup of tea or visit Cromer‘s amazing lifeboat. The Lifeboat Station also houses a nostalgic extra treat in the form of a fine display of first day covers.

Find out about Cromer’s heroic lifeboatman Henry Blogg and for a complete change of scene pay a visit to Amazona Zoo, a few minutes south of Cromer. If all else fails there’s a glorious beach and plenty of great places to eat and drink.

Travel and parking
There are several well signposted car parks nearby. Cromer Museum is on Church Street. To find the museum from the railway station, coach park, bus stop or car parks, head for the tall church tower in the centre of town. The museum is next door.

Public transport
Cromer has good public transport links and in particular regular train, bus and coach services1 to and from Norwich and Sheringham.
