Rural heritage railway
in the heart of Norfolk

This heritage railway takes passengers on an eleven mile trip through unspoilt Norfolk countryside, passing well-preserved signal boxes and pretty village stations. Mid Norfolk Railway runs heritage diesel trains and there are regular visits from guest steam trains.

Dereham station is a fine example of a mid-Victorian station and has been restored to the 1950s period. When trains are running the station itself is also open for visits. Entry is free and there are several display cases with artefacts and local photographs. The small museum is open on Wednesdays only.

Trains run between Dereham and Wymondham Abbey Stations and you can build a trip to one or both of these historic market towns into your day.

Recommended length of visit: station only, 20 to 30 minutes. Dereham Station to Wymondham Abbey, 2 hour round trip.

Other good things to do near by
Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse has fifty acres of beautiful countryside, fascinating history and is good fun for all the family.

In Wymondham you can explore the Abbey and learn all about the town at Wymondham Heritage Museum.

And of course Dereham is well worth a look - Thursday is market day. The George Hotel (near the war memorial) offers good food and beer in its lounge bar.

Travel and parking
The station is just off the A47. Take the exit labelled A1075. Follow signs for the town centre and brown signs for the Mid Norfolk Railway, turning right into Station Road after about 200m.

Public transport
First Bus number X1 runs between Peterborough, Kings Lynn, Dereham and Norwich
Konectbus run services from Fakenham, Norwich & Swaffham.

The bus stop in Dereham market place is a short walk from Dereham station.
